Space Debris: Flux in a Two Dimensional Orbit
نویسنده
چکیده
The debris circling the Earth has become an important environmental problem. In particular it creates nonnegligeable risk for spacecraft and satellites. This paper discusses a method to bound the rate of passage of objects through an arc segment in the plane of motion, given random initial conditions for the orbiting object. An advantage of the approach of this paper is that the initial conditions may be arbitrary and that moments beyond the rst may be computed in a similar manner.

Stereoscopic Imaging Determines Space Debris Impact Crater Distribution and Morphology
Impacts of fast traveling natural micrometeoroids and anthropogenic space debris are widely considered as one of the two major threats to humankind’s presence in near-Earth space. The dimensions of particles that pose an impact threat to spacecraft range from micrometer-sized micrometeoroids to the 8.5-ton Tiangong-1 [1], which will re-enter in early 2018 to be superseded by the 8-ton Envisat [...

Let be a differentiable action of a Lie group on a differentiable manifold and consider the orbit space with the quotient topology. Dimension of is called the cohomogeneity of the action of on . If is a differentiable manifold of cohomogeneity one under the action of a compact and connected Lie group, then the orbit space is homeomorphic to one of the spaces , , or . In this paper we suppo...
متن کاملSpace Debris Mitigation Utilizing Laser Ablation
Space debris poses an increasingly serious threat to satellites and spacecraft. Our project will aim to mitigate this problem using an array of kilowatt-class lasers, powered by photovoltaics. An experiment was implemented to study this using a directed energy system to completely vaporize or propel space debris out of Earth’s orbit. Common materials found in space debris were tested using a 60...
متن کاملShape estimation of space debris using single-range Doppler interferometry
Shape estimation of space debris, or the fragments of satellites and rocket bodies left on the earth’s orbit is an important task in evaluating its danger of a possible collision with operational spacecraft. A method of imaging a space debris whose size is smaller than the range resolution of the radar is proposed. It is called Single Range Doppler Interferometry (SRDI) in contrast to the conve...
متن کاملA Scenario and Technologies for Space Debris Removal
Since the number of satellites in Earth orbit is steadily increasing, space debris will eventually pose a serious problem to near-Earth space activities if left unchecked, and so effective measures to mitigate it are becoming urgent. Equipping new satellites with an end-of-life de-orbit or orbital lifetime reduction capability could be an effective means of reducing the amount of debris by redu...
